What we store, and why

Plain language, no surprises. Last updated 24 July 2026.

The short version

You can browse every trail without an account, and without us storing anything about you beyond ordinary hosting logs. If you create an account, we store what you give us — your email and your dog's profile — so your trails follow you across devices. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and community posts are the only thing other people ever see.

What we store when you have an account

All of this lives in Google Firebase (Firestore), in your account's own record.

What stays on your device

We use your browser's local storage for convenience caches: your language choice, a summary of your dog's profile so pages load personalised without a round-trip, your dog's photo, and which “what's new” notes you've seen. It never leaves your browser, and logging out clears the account-related parts.

Anonymous counters

When someone starts hike mode on a trail, we count it — trail id and timestamp, nothing else. No account, no location, no device identifiers. It powers the “dogs hiked this week” number.

Third parties

We run no advertising or tracking scripts.

Deleting your data

Open your account page and choose Cancel account. That deletes your account record — profile, saved trails, journal — and your login itself. If anything lingers or you can't log in to do it, email hello@dolopaws.com and we'll remove it by hand.
