An easy hour around the Chassettes, a 22 hectare pocket of former peat bog squeezed between Challes-les-Eaux and La Ravoire at the foot of the Bauges. Woods and marsh alternate along the way, with information panels on a birdlife that ranges from black kites and honey buzzards to black woodpeckers, and the Challes leisure lake sits right by the start. Keep the leash on, that's the condition for dogs here, and sensible anyway around ground-nesting birds. A treat for local dogs: two fenced dog parks sit by the leisure lake at the start, one for training and one for free running. Flat, short and close to town, a good pick for seniors, puppies or a quick evening lap. No fountains are mapped, so bring water on warm days.
